EAMS Families:

It is a busy time of the year, and wanted to make you aware of a couple upcoming events and opportunities at the middle school. Always feel free to contact us at 723-6800 if you have questions or feedback for us.

Term 1 Grades

Grades for the first grading period are in. Your student’s report card can be found on family access  in the portfolio tab on the left side of the screen. If they received an incomplete due to absences or retake work, grades will be finalized two weeks following the end of the term. 6th graders will also notice that our science teachers are piloting a different grading system. Instead of the traditional letter grade, students received a 1-4, depending on their proficiency for each of the standards that they were assessed on this term. We are hoping that this new system for reporting grades may be more informative to you and your student as to what specifically they are understanding and still need to work on.

Conferences/Book Fair

Parent-Teacher Conferences will be held Monday, November 7th, for some Gold Team students or Thursday, November 10th and Tuesday, November 15th from 3:30-7:30 for the rest of the students. Please contact your student’s teachers if you have questions as to the day and time assigned for you or if for some reason you didn’t receive information about scheduling a  conference. During the conference times on the 10th and 15th, our PTO will also be hosting a Book Fair in the library. Please take time to check it out as it is a great opportunity for our students to get new and engaging things to read at a reasonable price.

Winter Athetics

Boys Basketball and Gymnastics both start November 1st for our 7th and 8th graders. If you are interested in playing basketball in 7th grade, please see Mr. Davey, and in 8th grade, see Mr. Heritage. Interested gymnasts should see Ms. Skala. To be able to participate in either activity, we must have a current physical for your student on file.

Milwaukee Bucks Experience

Annually we raise funds at the middle school to keep the cost of our field trips reasonable. We had a great time a couple of weeks ago with the Color Run, and now we will be holding a magazine sale. New with the sale this year for students that sell 10 subscriptions is a cool pre-game experience with the Milwaukee Bucks that includes photo opportunities on the court, courtside viewing of warm-ups,  and a ticket to the game. Students will be getting this information next Tuesday as the sale runs from November 1-15.

Parents often ask, “What can I do to help my student at home?” One thing that may be a resource is the Odyssey online educational program. It consists of video lessons and assessments that match your student’s academic level determined by the MAP testing. Many of our teachers are requiring these lessons for math and language arts, but these can all be done outside of school and really present different material that will help your student’s academic growth. There is a link on the student tab of our web page and your student will know how to log in from there.

Handbook Mistake

The calendar in our student handbook has two mistakes that I wanted to make you aware of. It lists November 2 as an inservice day. This is incorrect. We have off Friday for fall break, and Monday, October 31st for inservice. November 2nd is a regular school day that students should be attending. This calendar lists June 10th as our last day of school which is also incorrect as we finish on Thursday, June 8th, this year. If you have any questions on calendar dates, please refer to the school webpage which is linked here.

Hopefully you are aware of the referendum question that all voters will be answering on Thursday, November 8th. Please take the time to vote and if you would like more information about the referendum, it can be found here.

Thanks for reading and we’ll see you at conferences!
